Gandhi Global Center for Peace Student Essay Contest

COMING JANUARY 30, 2015!

GGCP Winning Selection LaurelsMahatma Gandhi’s grandson Arun Gandhi announces the annual Gandhi Global Center for Peace essay contest for students to share their vision for the center.

In partnership with Gandhi’s Be Magazine and GAIA (Global Action Initiatives Alliance), the first annual essay contest takes place during “A Season for Nonviolence” marking the assassinations of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30 and Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4.

During this time, students around the world are invited to write and submit their essays on one of three focus questions. The final deadline for submission of essays is April 4, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. E.S.T.

There are four categories for students to enter:

1. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Instructions: Finish the statement, “I’m going to change the world starting with…” in a story, an essay, or a drawing, for example.

2. MIDDLE SCHOOL

Instructions: Students are invited to answer the following question in essay format (written in 500 words or less):

How will you “Be the Change you wish to see in the world”?

3. HIGH SCHOOL

Instructions: Students are invited to answer the following question in essay format (written in 500 words or less):

We have a “Bill of Rights” in the United States of America. What would you include in a “Bill of Responsibilities”?

4. COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY

Instructions: Students are invited to answer the following question in essay format (written in 500 words or less):

What would be your vision for a Gandhi Global Center for Peace?

Arun Gandhi says, “The Gandhi Global Center for Peace essay competition is geared towards what young people think today about the world and the way it is going and we hope they will be able to open their hearts in these essays and give us a peak into their feelings and what they want this world to be.”

Winners will be featured on the Gandhi Global Center for Peace website, and they will also have a spotlight and interview on Gandhi’s Be Magazine (www.bemagazine.org).

Essay Submission: Please email your submission along with your name, where you are from, your age, your school, and a “selfie” photo to editors@bemagazine.org by April 4, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. E.S.T.
